The Thread of Hope Project

Our Mission

Thread of Hope was established in 2014 to provide a safe haven for teenage girls orphaned by the ongoing crises in the Central African Republic. We believe every child deserves access to education, healthcare, and the opportunity to envision a brighter future. Our focus on teenage girls addresses a critical gap in humanitarian programs that often prioritize younger children, leaving adolescents particularly vulnerable.
The Barriers Girls Face
In Bangui, orphaned girls face nearly insurmountable obstacles to building a stable future:
1. Lack of Public Transport
The city lacks public transport systems, leaving girls without any affordable way to access schools. To ensure they can attend Lycée Pie XII, we cover the costs of local taxis, an essential but significant expense.
2.  Absence of Free Medical Care
The Central African Republic does not offer free healthcare services, and many families cannot afford basic medical attention. At Thread of Hope, we take responsibility for providing medical care for our residents, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.
3. Economic Vulnerability
With an average income of just €600 per year, the cost of education, transportation, healthcare, and daily living is a heavy burden for most families, leaving orphaned girls without access to the basic necessities of life.

What Thread of Hope Provides

1. Safe Housing
A secure, nurturing environment where the girls can grow under the guidance of an experienced matron.
2. Access to Education
We cover all costs associated with attending the reputable Lycée Pie XII, including tuition, school supplies, uniforms, and transportation. This ensures that every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
3. Healthcare and Support
From routine medical checkups to psychological counseling, we provide essential healthcare services that many girls in Bangui cannot access otherwise.
4. Life Skills and Professional Development
Every girl is supported in developing a personal and professional plan, equipping her with the skills needed for a successful transition into adulthood.
5. Individualized Care
Our small structure, housing just eight girls, ensures that each resident receives personalized attention and support tailored to her needs.
